Assessment and deployment of operational teams

There are two main assessments required to be completed to achieve operational status. Assessments are conducted in line with the requirements of Victoria Police.

Assessment 1 is the 'Fundamental Skills Assessment' (FSA). The FSA involves an obedience test, sociability test, agility, a barking duration test, directional control, and a search for two persons on rubble. Assessment 2 is the 'Mission Readiness Test' (MRT). The MRT involves a search over up to four different scenarios, for seven people. The MRT is assessed by Victoria Police and other emergency services qualified assessors, and must be completed every two years.

Deployment is initiated only on request of Victoria Police.
