Safety at ASAR-K9

Australian Search and Rescue K9 takes safety for all members and people assisting our organisation very seriously, with our organisational health and safety policies being consistent with industry standards. A full risk assessment is conducted before every training session, with the completion of a Safe Working Method Statement to ensure all site considerations and procedures are understood and complied with.
All members wear full personal protective equipment and clothing when training on site, including helmet, gloves, elbow and knee pads, safety glasses, safety boots and high visibility clothing. A designated safety officer ensures the safety and wellbeing of handlers and canines, along with ‘survivors’ hidden in rubble or other similar material.
Australian Search and Rescue K9 members are also fully covered by public liability insurance up to $20 million, along with volunteer accident insurance.
